A rich and hearty Bolognese sauce recipe perfect for pasta, lasagna, or as a base for other dishes.

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, and celery; cook until softened.
  2. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add ground beef and pork, cooking until browned.
  4. Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  6. Let the sauce simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  7. Stir in the milk and let simmer for another 30 minutes.

Notes

  • This sauce can be made in advance and freezes well.
  • For a richer flavor, allow the sauce to simmer longer.
  • Serve with freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top.
