A traditional German dish made with pretzel dumplings, often served as a side with hearty meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 stale pretzels
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup parsley, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Cut the stale pretzels into small cubes and place them in a large bowl.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk until warm and pour over the pretzel cubes. Let soak for 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, melt the butter and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
  4. In a bowl, combine the soaked pretzels, sautéed onion, eggs, parsley, salt, pepper, and flour. Mix well.
  5. Form the mixture into dumplings.
  6. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and gently drop in the dumplings. Cook for about 15 minutes or until they float to the surface.
  7. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve.

Notes

  • Use day-old pretzels for the best texture.
  • Try adding bacon bits or cheese for extra flavor.
